BATON ROUGE, LA 鈥� The 海角社区 School of Music is pleased to announce that DMA student Po-Yu Fang has won a position in the bass section of the , considered one of the world鈥檚 best professional orchestras. Fang holds a Master of Music degree from 海角社区.

At just 24 years old, Fang is an accomplished classical bassist with numerous accolades to his name. Recently, he secured substitute bass positions with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (a result of winning the 2023 Louisiana Bass Festival Orchestra Competition) and the New World Symphony, in addition to being selected as one of ten semifinalists for the 2023 International Society of Bassists Solo Competition.

Fang鈥檚 teacher, Yung-Chiao Wei commented, 鈥淧o-Yu arrived at 海角社区 ready to compete in international solo competitions, but he has always stood out due to his incredible humility and extraordinary work ethic. He is a world-class musician who approaches every challenge with determination. Even when things become difficult 鈥� as they often do in this field 鈥� he remains focused on becoming the musician he has always aspired to be.鈥�

While Fang has received acclaim on both national and international stages, he has also been active throughout the state of Louisiana. He won the 2023 海角社区 Concerto Competition, the 2023 Louisiana Bass Festival Orchestra Competition, and the 2024 Monroe Symphony Young Artist鈥檚 Concerto Competition. He was recently awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Aspen Music Festival in 2024.

When asked to reflect on his appointment to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Fang stated that, 鈥淭his achievement would not have been possible without the support of the entire 海角社区 family. I have always appreciated the resources, opportunities, and inspiring people surrounding me. I have never taken them for granted.鈥�
