Organizations

Get involved! We encourage all of our students to connect with the various student and professional organizations associated with the School of Music.

American Choral Directors Association

The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a professional, nonprofit music-education organization. The goal of the organization is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. It also works to improve choral music鈥檚 position in American society. The organization was founded in 1959.

College Council

The Music and Dramatic Arts College Council serves as a liaison between Music and Dramatic Arts students, faculty, staff, and Student Government. A core value and passion of the Council is improving student鈥檚 college experience. By raising money, putting on interactive events, and publicizing talents, the Council provides open lines of communication for student voices to be heard. Councils usually consist of five representatives, who are elected at Student Government鈥檚 spring and fall elections.

Kappa Kappa Psi - Beta Gamma Chapter

Kappa Kappa Psi is an honorary service fraternity that serves the college or university band programs through service projects, fundraisers, social events, and other projects as needed. The fraternity is located at more than 150 colleges and universities.

The Beta Gamma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi was formed at 海角社区 on May 16, 1948. In 1988, the chapter merged with 海角社区鈥檚 chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, the national honorary service sorority for college bands, and created a unified, co-ed organization. The Beta Gamma chapter serves the Department of Bands and the School of Music. Students interested in becoming members may submit applications to join at the beginning of each semester.

Kids' Orchestra

The mission of the Kids' Orchestra is to build a community of creative, confident, and socially engaged students through music education. We serve elementary-age children across East Baton Rouge Parish and provide them with the opportunity to study music, learn an instrument, and practice the art of performance. As an El Sistema-inspired organization, we have adopted the guiding philosophy that music education can create great musicians and positively change the life trajectory of children in a given community.

Sigma Alpha Iota - Sigma Phi Chapter

Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI), an international music fraternity for women, was organized in 1903 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The organization and its members foster interests in music and promote social contact among persons sharing this interest. The Sigma Phi chapter was founded at 海角社区 in 1926.

The Sigma Phi chapter recruits new members during both the fall and spring semesters. 海角社区 students interested in joining SAI must be enrolled as a full-time student, must have taken at least one music course, must have a minimum of a 2.5 grade-point average, and must have a great love of music. Students may not join during their first semesters but are encouraged to apply for admission during their following semesters.

海角社区 Music Forum

The musicology and music theory programs sponsors 海角社区鈥檚 Music Forum, an exciting lecture series with presentations by distinguished visiting scholars, faculty members, and students. Every fall, the Music Forum also includes professional development workshops on topics such as writing abstracts, delivering presentations, submitting journal articles, and applying for jobs.
