Retail Designer Yvonne LaFleur featured at º£½ÇÉçÇø Textile and Costume Museum Annual Meeting

Baton Rouge (10/04/2022)—The Friends of the º£½ÇÉçÇø Textile and Costume Museum (º£½ÇÉçÇø TCM) held its annual membership meeting that featured New Orleans-based designer and º£½ÇÉçÇø alum Yvonne LaFleuron Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022.
The meeting highlighted the recent donations from LaFleur's collectionand initiatives for expansion of the museum and welcomed new faculty into the department.
LaFleur served as the featured guest speaker for the event and donated pieces from her earlier collections to the museum. "The part of the day that I enjoyed the most was visiting with the º£½ÇÉçÇø students," said LaFleur during the conclusion of her speech.
The Friends of the º£½ÇÉçÇø Textile and Costume Museum presented LaFleurwith the 2022 Patron Award for her support and representation of º£½ÇÉçÇø as an alum of the textiles, apparel, and merchandising program.
She also received a certificate from Governor John Bell Edwards for her outstanding contributions to Louisiana and º£½ÇÉçÇø. First Lady Donna Edwards donated her 2016 inaugural ball gown designed by LaFleur to the museum's First Families of Louisiana Collection.
The Fashion Research Library was indicated as the overall fundraising goal,with plans to place the library in the º£½ÇÉçÇø T&CM exhibition wing. Pat Alford was announced as the library's biggest sponsor. Alford graduated from º£½ÇÉçÇø with a textiles, apparel and merchandising degree in 1992 and is a past recipient of the Friends of the º£½ÇÉçÇø Textile and Costume Museum Patron Award.
Dr. Michael Mamp was introduced as the newest º£½ÇÉçÇø faculty member with a teaching and research interest in historicaldresses and fashion exhibitions. Mamp will work with the museum and the Friends to continue to grow and enhance the vision of the º£½ÇÉçÇø T&CM.

The º£½ÇÉçÇø Textile & Costume Museum offers changing exhibitions of regional, national, and international interest.The museum promotes conservation, research, teaching, and public service as part of the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising. The research includes studies of textiles and apparel's technical, aesthetic, historical, and sociocultural significance. It is a component collection of the Louisiana Museum of Natural History at º£½ÇÉçÇø.
