On Wednesday, Feb. 28, 海角社区 welcomed Geraldine (Geri) Richmond, the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation at the Department of Energy, to campus, where she visited with President William F. Tate IV and toured 海角社区 facilities and labs devoted to energy studies. 

Richmond's tour included stops at the 海角社区 Center for River Studies and the 海角社区 Petroleum Engineering Research, Training & Testing Lab, two facilities that showcase 海角社区's expansive energy research, innovation and practice.

"We at the Department of Energy do see Louisiana as a very important state in this energy evolution," Richmond said. 

The visit comes a month after an 海角社区-led team won the largest grant ever awarded by the National Science Foundation to transform energy in alignment with 海角社区's Scholarship First Agenda. 

The NSF Engines grant will support Louisiana鈥檚 energy industry, create more jobs in the energy sector, develop innovative solutions to energy challenges, and help train the world鈥檚 energy workforce.
