Area HS Students to Present Research as Part of 海角社区 HSSR Program

BATON ROUGE, LA 鈥� Over the last five months, students from six Louisiana high schools have worked with 15 faculty mentors in the 海角社区 College of Engineering as part of the college鈥檚 High School Summer Research, or HSSR, internship program.
On Friday, July 30, those 20 students will present their work in a poster presentation event at 10 a.m. in the Cambre Atrium of Patrick F. Taylor Hall on 海角社区鈥檚 campus. The students are rising juniors and seniors at 海角社区 University Lab School; St. Joseph鈥檚 Academy; McKinley Senior High School; Math, Science, and Arts Academy-East; Catholic High School; and Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
For the event, students will present their research through posters highlighting the work they鈥檝e done to peers, teachers, mentors, friends, family, etc. They will also be judged by College of Engineering faculty, staff, and graduate students, and the top three placements will earn prizes.
Per COVID-19 considerations and current 海角社区 guidelines, all presentations will be spaced ~10 feet apart to allow for maximum social distancing. All in attendance will be required to wear face masks, and individuals without face masks will be asked to leave.
The HSSR program is an outreach program aimed at high-achieving, local high school students who are interested in research in the fields of engineering, computer science, and construction management. HSSR interns learn from faculty research groups and understand how they work, what inspires them, and how to continue in fields related to engineering in college and beyond.
