Main Navigation

The main navigation is controlled in the site's main _props file. To edit the navigation on a site, do the following:

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Select 鈥淓dit鈥
  5. Click the 鈥淓dit Meganav鈥 button
  6. To add a parent item (Top Level Link)
    1. Add a new row
    2. In the left column, type the text you want to appear in the main navigation
    3. Highlight the text
    4. Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
    5. Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
    6. Click 鈥淚nsert鈥
    7. Click 鈥淥k"
  7. To add a sub nav item (Secondary Content/Links)
    1. In the right column, add a bulleted list
    2. Type the text you want to appear in the sub nav from the main parent item
    3. Highlight the text
    4. Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
    5. Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
    6. Click 鈥淚nsert鈥
    7. Click 鈥淥k鈥
  8. Save
  9. Publish

Side Navigation

Adding a Side Navigation

Contact stratcomm@lsu.edu or submit a service desk ticket at servicedesk@lsu.edu to enable a side navigation.

Editing a Side Navigation

The side navigation is controlled in the nav.inc file of a directory. To edit an already existing side navigation, do the following:

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the _nav.inc file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Select 鈥淓dit鈥
  5. To add an item to the side navigation,
    1. Add a bullet 
    2. Type the text you want to appear in the main navigation
    3. Highlight the text
    4. Select the "Insert/Edit Link" icon from the toolbar
    5. Using the file finder, navigate to the file you want the text to link to
    6. Click 鈥淚nsert鈥
    7. Click 鈥淥k"
  6. To delete an item from the side navigation,
    1. Highlight the link
    2. Select "Remove Link" icon from the toolbar
    3. Delete the text and the bullet
  7. Save
  8. Publish

Masthead

The main _props.pcf file also controls the site's masthead. To edit the name which appears in the masthead:

Department Information

To add a department info, do the following:

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Select the 鈥淧roperties鈥 tab
  5. To change the site name, update the "Department Name" field
  6. To change the link, update the "Department Link" field
  7. Save
  8. Publish

College Information

To add a college info, do the following:

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Select 鈥淧roperties鈥
  5. Check the box by "College Name Display"
  6. Add the parent name in the "College Name" text field
  7. Add the link to the parent item in the "College Link" text field
  8. Save
  9. Publish 

Footer

Contact Information

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Click the 鈥淓dit Main Content鈥 button
  5. Scroll down to the footer
  6. Click the 鈥淓dit Footer Address鈥 button
  7. Make edits 鈥 If inserting a unit name, it is best practice to link the unit name back to the unit鈥檚 homepage.
  8. Save
  9. Publish

Social Media Icons

Social icons will default to the university's main feeds. If you want to change the links, do the following:

  1. Log into Omni
  2. Navigate to the directory you want to edit
  3. Check out the main _props.pcf file by clicking on the light bulb, making it yellow
  4. Select 鈥淓dit鈥
  5. Scroll down to the footer
  6. To edit a footer icon,
    1. Click the 鈥淓dit Footer Social List鈥 button
    2. Highlight the social media name (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
    3. Click on the "Insert/Edit Link" icon in the toolbar
    4. Paste your social media's URL in the URL text field
    5. Click "Save"
  7. To delete a footer icon,
    1. Place your cursor in the same cell as the item you want to delete
    2. Right click in the same cell
    3. Select 鈥淩ow鈥
    4. Select 鈥淒elete row鈥
  8. Save
  9. Publish

Uneditable Region

Two areas are uneditable in the footer. The left area, which includes webmaster info and required links, and the copyright statement beneath the social icons.
