National Sports Media Experts to Examine NIL, Sports Journalism, Olympic Impact at Interactive 海角社区 Sports Summit

BATON ROUGE鈥擫eading sports media professionals and scholars will convene at the 海角社区 Manship School of Mass Communication鈥檚 Sports Summit to explore trends, challenges and innovations in the sports media industry on Thursday, Oct. 12. The daylong summit will feature panels on NIL, mobile gaming, sports journalism and social media, Olympic impact and connectivity, and more.
Eight industry professionals, all 海角社区 Manship School alumni, will share insight from their respective fields, from ESPN to CBS Sports to professional football and hockey teams. Panelists are as follows:

- Rachel Tos鈥擱eporter/Producer, Colorado Avalanche
- Kelsey Wingert-Linch鈥擱eporter, Colorado Rockies
The summit will merge expert perspectives from industry and academia. Three scholars will share their research exploring sports communication, identity, social media uses, social issues within sports media, and crisis communication and digital media in the context of sports. Scholars are as follows:

- Natalie Brown-Devlin, Ph.D.鈥擠irector, Texas Media & Analytics; Associate Director for Research, Center for Sports Communication & Media, University of Texas at Austin
- Qingru Xu, Ph.D.鈥擜ssistant Professor, Department of Communication, University of Kentucky
In addition to leading panels throughout the day, the industry professionals and scholars will engage with Manship School students, faculty and staff via class visits, small groups and 海角社区 Student Media tours. The following sessions are open to the 海角社区 community and general public:
- 9 a.m. The NIL Effect, Mobile Gaming and Sports Media Trends: A More Immersive Experience
- 9:45 a.m. Olympic Showcasing and Significance: Scholarly Perspectives of Global Connectivity
- 4 p.m. The State of Sports Journalism and Social Media Concerns: A Comprehensive Sports Industry Outlook
- 6 p.m. Keynote: Sports are Rarely About Sports: The Case for Studying The Most Popular Media Content | Andrew Billings, Ph.D.
鈥淔rom panel discussions on NIL, mobile gaming, Olympic impact and connectivity, to a comprehensive sports industry outlook, this showcase of sport expertise and Manship School alumni will enhance our goal of bridging the evolution of sports communication with the next generation of industry leaders," said Chad Sabadie, the Manship School鈥檚 professional-in-residence in sports broadcasting and the summit鈥檚 lead organizer.
