Assistant Professor Ruth Moon to Explore Globalism, Effects of News Reporting in Post-Conflict Rwanda at 海角社区 Reilly Center Book Talk

BATON ROUGE鈥擱uth Moon, Ph.D., assistant professor in media and public affairs at 海角社区, will explore the power of truthful and impactful journalism at a book talk and signing on Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m. CT in the Holliday Forum of the 海角社区 Journalism Building. The event鈥斺淎uthoritarian Journalism: Controlling the News in Post-Conflict Rwanda,鈥 the book鈥檚 namesake鈥攊s hosted by the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs at 海角社区鈥檚 Manship School of Mass Communication.

Moon will examine the force of globalization and its impacts on reporting techniques in Rwanda, ultimately drawing conclusions applicable to journalism fields everywhere.

Uyen Diep, a Manship School Ph.D. candidate and U.S. foreign correspondent in Vietnam at B谩o Thanh Ni锚n, will facilitate the discussion.

"Dr. Moon's ethnographic work is insightful for journalists and scholars throughout the world, especially in the Global South,鈥 Diep said. "Journalists have to balance pressures from the state, globalization and historical antagonism in post-conflict countries to deliver accurate news.鈥

Moon is an assistant professor in media and public affairs at 海角社区 and a Reilly Center research affiliate. She studies power relationships and knowledge production with a focus on communication processes and journalistic practice in the Global South. Her research is informed by more than 10 years of professional experience working as a reporter and editor for magazines and newspapers in the U.S.
