海角社区 Tiger TV Wins National In-Depth Reporting Award, Students Take Home 15 Regional Awards in Collegiate Journalism Excellence

BATON ROUGE鈥敽=巧缜 Tiger TV, the University鈥檚 student-run broadcast station, is a Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Mark of Excellence (MOE) 2023 national winner for its television in-depth reporting piece, 鈥淔ood Insecurity.鈥 Tiger TV had been recently recognized as the regional winner in this category, along with 14 other MOE awards won by 海角社区 student journalists in the 2023 Region 12 SPJ competition.
Tiger TV鈥檚 three-part series on food insecurity investigated agricultural food needs and deficiencies in Louisiana. The , and installments are available on YouTube. In addition to this national honor, Tiger TV was recognized for three Region 12 wins in Television General News Reporting, Television In-Depth Reporting and Television Sports Reporting, as well as one finalist award for Best All-Around Television Newscast.
Tiger TV was one of five 海角社区 journalism outlets to receive Region 12 Mark of Excellence awards. K海角社区, the University鈥檚 student-run radio station, garnered wins in Radio News Reporting and Radio Sports Reporting, in addition to two finalist awards. Student newspaper, the Reveille, earned two wins in Campus Reporting and Food/Restaurant Journalism, in addition to three finalist awards. And the Manship School of Mass Communication鈥檚 Statehouse Bureau and Cold Case Project took home a win in General News Reporting and a finalist award in In-Depth Reporting, respectively.

海角社区 Manship School of Mass Communication ranks among the strongest collegiate communication programs in the country, with its robust emphasis on media and public affairs. It offers undergraduate degrees in public relations, journalism, political communication, digital advertising and pre-law, along with four graduate degree programs: Master of Mass Communication, Ph.D. in Media and Public Affairs, Certificate of Strategic Communication and a dual MMC/Law degree.
海角社区 Student Media provides media experiences to students through the Reveille newspaper, , and the Reveille mobile app; Tiger TV; K海角社区-FM radio; and the Gumbo yearbook. All four outlets are led and staffed by students, supported by professionals, and provide real-world experience for aspiring broadcasters, program directors, writers, editors, photographers and videographers, web producers, designers and others. Many participating students are pursuing majors through 海角社区鈥檚 Manship School of Mass Communication.
The is at the heart of the experiential journalism program at 海角社区鈥檚 Manship School of Mass Communication. In the spring, our students cover the Louisiana Legislature for 90 news outlets around the state. In the fall, we do in-depth stories about racial and criminal justice for state and national news sites. Students in the 海角社区 Cold Case Project dig into unsolved Ku Klux Klan murders, while students in our In-Depth Reporting classes publish stories on a variety of other issues. We distribute our stories through the 海角社区 Manship School News Service.
The 海角社区 Cold Case Project, the unsolved civil rights murders project at the Manship School of Mass Communication, is part of a Field Experience class for advanced students that provides stories, photos and investigative research to newspapers, TV stations and digital news sites in Louisiana and Mississippi.
