Biography

Joshua R. Jackson, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of sports communication at 海角社区鈥檚 Manship School of Mass Communication. He earned an MMC from the Manship School and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. Jackson studies the effects that sports and social media have on individual and group identity.

Jackson utilizes both qualitative and quantitative methods to further investigate the whys and hows behind moments in and around various sports, including American football, men鈥檚 basketball, women鈥檚 basketball, Formula One and professional wrestling. Recently, he published 鈥淭he State of Black Quarterback Media Depictions in the NFL: Reasons for Both Celebration and Concern鈥 in the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media and 鈥淭he Role of Gender in Evaluating Athletes鈥 Positions on Social Justice Initiatives鈥 in Communication & Sport.

A former journalist and news producer, Jackson combines his professional experiences with his passion for sports and research training, bringing a personalized approach to the classroom and his writing.
